Autoimmune Diseases can Affect Vital Organs – Dr. Ashish Badika

There are more than 100 different types of autoimmune diseases. These diseases can affect most of the vital organs of the body.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)

The immune system targets the joints in rheumatoid arthritis. The joints become red, heated, aching, and stiff as a result of this onslaught. Unlike osteoarthritis, which typically affects people as they get older, it can begin around the age of 30 or even earlier in some cases.

Psoriasis/psoriatic arthritis

Skin cells regularly proliferate and then die when they are no longer required. Psoriasis causes abnormally rapid proliferation of skin cells. Extra cells accumulate and produce inflammatory red patches on the skin, which are frequently accompanied by silver-white plaque scales. Up to 30% of persons with psoriasis have joint oedema, stiffness, and pain.

Some other autoimmune diseases are :

  • Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE),
  • inflammatory bowel disease,
  • Addison’s disease,
  • Graves’ disease,
  • Sjögren’s syndrome,
  • Hashimoto’s thyroiditis,
  • Vasculitis and many more

Reach out to your doctor to know more about these diseases and know, how you can prevent yourself from these diseases.
